Enrolled tribal member; Fort Independence Community of Paiute Indians  (Fort Independence Indian Reservation, California).

I served as Vice-Chairman (2016-2018) for my tribe on the Fort Independence Indian Reservation in the beautiful Owens Valley of Eastern California.

Artist Statement
My work encompasses the ideas of place, perception, pattern and movement.
Place is a fluid idea. It can represent where I stand, literally, or where I am in context to my feelings. Place becomes the grounding element to these paintings. Perception refers to what I interpret while I am experiencing a particular place and how I place that imagery within my works. The overlay is filtered through the colors predominate in the place I am referencing. Pattern is brought to the forefront, literally, of my pieces. It is created from design elements I see in the places I am referring to. The patterns can reference local architecture, Paiute basketry, pottery, geographical landmarks, or organic shapes. The repetition of these shapes reinforces the juxtaposition of imagery and color fields. Particularly with the use of pattern, the overlay design creates a signature look for each series completed. Within these juxtapositions, I attempt to create movement between what is seen within the landscape, what is felt by viewing it, and how the viewer can switch back and forth between these elements within the construct of the surface of the painting.
